Meet Amy Hockings: CBT Therapist
Amy Hockings supports adults with a wide range of challenges, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help people better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. She works collaboratively with clients to break unhelpful patterns and develop more positive ways of thinking, enabling them to move forwards and live more fulfilling lives. Although her specialty is in CBT therapy, Amy confidently uses a range of therapeutic approaches to support the individual with what they need.
Amy has a particular interest in working with anxiety, OCD, phobias and low self-esteem. She offers a warm, non-judgemental and supportive space, where clients feel heard and understood, and where therapy is tailored to each individual.
Outside of the therapy room, Amy enjoys travelling to new places, cooking, long walks with her cockapoo puppy, and staying active through exercise.
You can work with Amy at The Harton Practice but she also has bases in Houghton le Spring and Washington.

CBT can help you better understand how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours interact, and how this leads to anxiety and phobias. By identifying these unhelpful patterns, we can work together to introduce practical strategies that help you think more positively.

Yes, CBT can be very effective in addressing low self-esteem. Together, we can explore long-standing beliefs about yourself and where they come from, and work towards developing more balanced ways of thinking.

CBT is one of the most effective approaches for supporting people with OCD. It helps you understand the cycle between intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviours, and why they can feel so difficult to manage. Together, we can work to gradually reduce these patterns and change how you respond to the intrusive thoughts.
